The Hoonah music department proudly presented our Spring concert on April 30th.
Due to ongoing construction issues in our main building, we moved our concert outdoors under the pavilion in the City Park. With temperatures in the mid 40's and spitting rain, the students rose to the challenge. 85 students, ranging from prek-11th grade took part.
The elementary students, dressed in unnecessary sun visors and sunglasses, did a salute to spring..Alaskan spring! They all sang together with great enthusiasm entertaining the audience with such songs as Rockin' Robin and Bugs are Beautiful.
The intermediate band followed...cold fingers did not stop them from excelling on Fishy Scale Blues and American Patrol.
The High School band did an exemplary job considering the adverse conditions. Their musical growth was displayed in such pieces as the Allegro con Fucoco from the New World Symphony, a beautiful arrangement of Somewhere of the Rainbow, and everyone's favorite sea chanty, Wellerman. They finished off the evening with a blistering rendition of Fireball, much to the delight of the audience and myself.
The concert was enjoyed by all with almost 200 guests in attendance. It was a successful culmination to a fantastic year.
